Last time out we spotlighted five denim jackets to consider for this season and now we shift our attention to another closet staple, the short sleeve button up. Perfect for the warmer weather ahead or for comfortable layering under a sweater or jacket, the short sleeve shirt is a versatile piece of clothing you should have in your wardrobe. We pick five of our favorites for this season with a variety of styles as we hope it has something for everyone.
We begin our list with the classic Oxford Shirt, an essential piece of clothing that will come in handy almost year-round. Saturdays’ Esquina Oxford Shirt in white will soon become your favorite shirt for its endless outfit combinations. Pair it with olive or khaki shorts or even jeans for a simple look that you won’t get tired of.
Subtle horizontal stripes make the Lemongrass Woven by Roark Revival a perfect addition to any closet this season. Throw in a solid colored pair of shorts, perhaps navy chinos and you have the makings of an easy to wear outfit. While the shirt stands out just fine on its own, it looks even better when you add a lightweight jacket or cardigan on top.
Sometimes it’s the slightest detail that can make a shirt stand out like Apolis’ Stripe Banker Collar Shirt. Most of the shirt comes in a combination of linen and cotton in navy, while the peeking pen collar is white. It’s just enough contrast to make this shirt a solid purchase with lightweight construction and a modern take to a classic design.
Short sleeve shirts can often be perceived to be boring, however it is the prints and patterns that are used make them a lot more fun. Even when it’s subtle, an eye-catching print can drastically improve an outfit. Pictured above is the Valley Hula Shirt by Feltraiger. They’ve managed to make the Hawaiian print cool again and definitely a less boring way to rock a short sleeve button-up.
A simple pattern goes a long way and 3Sixteen’s Short Sleeve Workshirt is a great example. Featuring a heathered salt and pepper fabric in plaid, this workshirt has the look and feel of a cotton-linen blend, but is 100% cotton. It will feel great during the warm daytime and look even better when it gets dark at night. Definitely a fan favorite for the Spring and Summer seasons.
